Chemistry
Comfort Chukwunenye James is a final-year Chemistry student at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, with a growing interest in the intersection of science, innovation, and sustainable development. Her journey in Chemistry has shaped the way she approaches problems: with curiosity, analytical thinking, and a desire to understand how scientific principles can be transformed into solutions that work beyond the laboratory.
Her participation in the AgroSolar TechnoPreneurship and Innovation Centre (ASTIC) has provided an opportunity to take this approach into the field. As a member of the team behind Solar Harvest, she is contributing to the development of a solar-powered cold-storage solution aimed at tackling one of agriculture's persistent challenges, the loss of valuable produce between harvest and consumption.
For Comfort, Solar Harvest represents more than a refrigeration system. It is an opportunity to see science translated into something tangible: technology that can preserve food, protect farmers' income, reduce waste, and make better use of renewable energy. The project has also strengthened her appreciation for interdisciplinary teamwork and the role young scientists can play in solving problems within their communities.
She hopes to continue building a career at the intersection of chemistry, research, and innovation while pursuing opportunities that allow her scientific knowledge to create practical and lasting impact.
