Dr John Cookey Ekpo

I am a seasoned Medical Biochemist and Lecturer with extensive experience across multiple educational levels in Nigeria. Over the years, I have taught Chemistry at the secondary level, Biochemistry at the Higher School Certificate (HSC) level, and various branches of Biochemistry — such as Physical, Tissue, Clinical, Industrial, and Plant Biochemistry — alongside Environmental Biology and Medicinal Chemistry at the tertiary level.

I hold a B.Sc. (Hons) in Biochemistry, an M.Sc. in Clinical Biochemistry, and a Ph.D. in Medical Biochemistry. My teaching and research efforts are focused primarily on Medical, Clinical, and Industrial Biochemistry, with a strong interest in Toxicology. As for the AgroSolar project the roles as a Biochemist include the following: food Quality and safety Analyst, Nutraceutical and functional food development, Biopesticide and Sustainable Crop Protection, etc.

Beyond academia, I have acquired significant experience working in hospitals, pharmacies, and pharmaceutical industries. I have also served on several academic and scientific committees, including my role as a Local Organizing/Technical Program Committee Member and Souvenir Coordinator for the 2nd International Conference on Adaptive and Sustainable Science, Engineering, and Technology (ASSET) 2023.

My research work includes publications in peer-reviewed journals such as Biokenustri, 33(4):181–186 and International Journal of Biomedical and Health Sciences, 17(4):171–176. I am currently engaged in a multidisciplinary research project titled: "AgroSolar TechnoPreneurship and Innovation Centre (ASTIC). This research project create and validate a solar powered agro-processing prototype that meets industry standards for sustainability". Additionally, I am pursuing research on medicinal herbs with the aim of discovering long-term therapeutic solutions for diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, stroke, and heavy metal toxicity in human organs.

With my diverse experience in industry, academia, and applied scientific research, I am well-positioned to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of knowledge and the development of practical solutions to pressing health and environmental challenges.
